Selenium

Uses: Selenium is used as vitamin supplements in small doses (50-200 micrograms per day for adult humans) and is also used in some livestock feed. Because of its photovoltaic and photoconductive properties, Se is used in solar panels (CIGS), photocopiers, and light meters. The largest use of Selenium is in the glass and ceramic industry where it is used to give the red colour to glass, enamels and glazes.

Description: Selenium comes in many different forms and has a variety of interesting properties. It conducts electricity better in the light than in the dark, is used to make the colour red in glasses and ceramics, and is necessary in small amounts to most, if not all, animals. The production of Selenium mostly comes from the treatment of a byproduct to copper smelting.
